I recently wrote a poem for Bernice, my beautiful dog, capturing the essence of her loving spirit. In it, I reflect on the memories we shared—the way her deep chocolate eyes looked at me, made me melt, her love for sunbathing, must be how she gave warmth to every room she was in.
Bernice was a quiet yet steadfast presence, always there, greeting the world with a joyful wag. Her friendly spirit touched everyone she met, leaving a trail of smiles in her wake a reminder of her purest heart.
Writing this poem helped me capture not only my grief but also my gratitude for the time we had together. Though she's now at rest, Bernice’s memory lives on, cherished in every corner of my life, in every soft breeze, under every star in the sky, and where the sun shine bright.
Bernice
In the stillness of night, I hear your paws,
A gentle reminder of love without cause.
Of our cherished Bernice, a jewel to embrace,
Seventeen years, so gentle, so full of grace.
A radiant spirit, with love intertwined,
A beautiful soul, forever enshrined.
Chocolate, we called her, for eyes deep and bright,
Sparkling with warmth, a comforting light.
She’d bask in the sun, soaking in rays,
A tranquil spirit in golden displays.
Her quiet presence, a soothing grace,
A loyal companion, filling each space.
She’d greet every stranger with a wag and a smile,
Making us all feel worthwhile for a while.
Though now she has crossed to peaceful rest,
In our hearts, dear Bernice, you're forever blessed.
Your beauty, your kindness, will never stray,
In the love that we shared, you’re never away.
So here’s to you, Bernice, our gentle, sweet girl,
In the garden of memories, your spirit won’t swirl.
With every soft breeze and each star shining bright,
We’ll cherish your memory, holding your love tight.
